Car insurance

If you don't have car insurance, it will cost you, at least initially. It also goes without saying that you probably won't get a car that's worth much if you don't have a reliable means of transportation, and it's an obvious way to avoid costly car accidents. Before buying a car, make sure to think about whether or not you are insured.

Clean up your credit

A nice credit score can help you score a lower car insurance rate, but it's not enough. Make sure to keep on top of it, since you don't want to be paying a bunch of money for no good reason. The credit card you pay off every month is probably a nice touch too, so make sure you pay them off every month.

Leave the car out

If you're moving to a new house or a different state, you may not be able to leave your car behind. Even if you move, you may end up moving a bit, so keep your car insurance coverage in mind, even if you don't plan on staying where you are for very long.

Rent out a truck

If you don't have much room in your car and you don't plan on moving much, renting a truck can be an easy way to have your car and a place to keep it. You can check out trucks for rent in a lot of different places, and you can get an idea of how much it will cost by checking out those that are in your state.

Use the truck for parts

If you're trying to save money while buying a car, getting the cheapest car, or even fixing your current car up and using it for parts, renting a truck can be a quick way to do so. There's probably some other stuff you could get by renting a truck, but one thing is for sure: if you're going to repair your car, this can be a great place to start.

Make sure you have liability insurance

If you don't have insurance, you're in a lot of trouble. Getting in a car accident can end up costing a lot of money and, worse, getting into legal trouble if you don't have insurance. If you already have car insurance, you should make sure you have liability insurance, which is basically just the minimum coverage you need to cover any car that you are in the driver's seat of. This can be in addition to your car insurance. You don't want to end up in a legal situation and possibly getting fined for having no insurance. It also helps if you're planning on driving at night, since you'll want liability insurance if you're out and about at night.

Declare the car

If you plan to use the truck for car parts and stuff, you may want to declare the car as a personal vehicle. This is another easy way to get lower car insurance rates, although you can't get lower than the ones you'd get by having a car at all.

Purchase a car without insurance

It's not the most ideal way to spend your money, but if you plan on getting a cheap car for a few years, or just to have a car for other reasons, buying a car without insurance can help. It's another way to go without insurance if you think it won't come to that, or if you're planning on keeping the car for a long time.
